The families of the children

Trabajo

The parents of the children in Khetpa Association have harsh lives. In the Himalayas the soil is rocky, the plots are small and agriculture is not mechanized. The farmers work the soil with their hands and carry the crops on their backs, working from before daylight until dark in the rain, cold or heat. But with all this work they barely earn enough for food and have to take other jobs in order to buy clothing and shoes to protect themselves from the snow and the heavy monsoon rains.

Economic situation. In these difficult economic circumstances it is not possible for the families to send their children to school. Furthermore the situation in the villages is deteriorating as population increases and arable land decreases. In this setting young people have very limited choices for their future and run the risk of taking dangerous and unhealthy paths in their lives.

Trabajo

The Mönpa. The children and their families, natives of the Tawang region of Aranuchal Pradesh in northeast India belong to the Mönpa ethnic group. Their cultural reference is Tibet and their religion is Buddhism.
